Show Transcript
This is the John Hallett podcast with John Hallett. Because the way we’re living, we need to change it. Make it change today. And all learn from failure. Maybe they just wanted it a little bit more than you. That’s probably the fact. And now your host, John Hallett.
Hey, everybody. Welcome back. I am John Hallett, and this is, uh, my little show here. I am joined, uh, today by Josh. As usual, he’s got a haircut, so I really want to hit that transition button, but we will hold them. Save off the big reveal. If you’re on YouTube, you know, hit that subscribe button.
That really helps us out. Check out suckless co for all your supplement needs. And today we’re talking about EDC for martial artists. But I. Josh just told me that my, um, favorite candidate, RFK, is going to be pulling out here in the next day or two to get behind Donald Trump and throw his support and anybody supporting him saying kamala is too dangerous to get in and she’s flip flopped.
I’m so sick of, uh, the media gaslighting us. It’s just crazy. Um, like, how stupid do they think people are? But they just keep saying it. They’re just really good at it. Everybody is. You got to get out there and look at other. Other media versus mainstream media. Get on to other podcasts that, you know, deal strictly with everything we’re talking about here.
Look at Josh’s hair. Look at that. 300. And how many days?
Dave was like 309, 312. Somewhere in there, she asked if I wanted to join the haircut club, but then she goes, well, you only get a haircut every year, so probably not.
Yeah.
You’re not doing much to sell yourself services here, but I should stay on top of it.
Yeah. You look more clean cut. You look. Yeah, I do.
And it’s not as. It’s actually really hard to train. It was getting to be really bad when I was rolling on the floor and my hair was stuck under people.
Yeah.
And that sucked. I was like, yeah, it’s time to go.
Yeah. I think you look a little more professional. I thank you. The long hair, it gets draggily.
Yeah. It’s hard to like mad scientist hair.
Yeah. So it’s tough.
Put you through that again.
Yeah. I did not like the mop head in my face whatsoever. That’s gross. Um.
You’re telling me. Yeah. Your boy, I mean, kind of like RFK as a candidate.
I do.
And I think 96% chance that he does that on Friday. It’s only 96, but.
Have you ever heard something called poly market? They let you bet on races, like government races, and people are betting that that’s gonna happen. Like, they’re willing to bet ninety six cents to win $0.04. So the betting markets. I didn’t know you could even bet on political races.
Yeah. I mean, God, those. They’ll bet on everything, dude.
It’s crazy.
They’ll bet on anything to do that.
But don’t bet on your everyday carry, though. Like, there’s some forethought that has to go into that.
Yeah, we were talking about it in class the other day, and I said to somebody, do you carry that knife every day? No. Like, well, that’s kind of a gotcha. That’s kind of setting up you up to fail in the street, because, you know, as we love to say, how you train is how you fight.
And now you’re going for a weapon that’s not there. Never, ever. Or is it 50% of the time? Yeah. Ah, you know, what is your everyday carry? And I think it’s got to be the same. And again, uh. To have a bazooka on you, but. It’S not gonna happen, you know?
Yeah. Um, you know, these days, it probably be better to have a drone that’s just programmed in. Yeah. You know, AI, like, boom, somebody’s attacking. You have a headshot. It’s gonna. It’s illegal, but I like it. I mean, it’s actually been banned by international courts that you can’t put explosives on drones.
Um, even though. Yeah, no. How about a gun? I was talking about a gun. Oh. Oh, even. That’s even more illegal on a drone. Hey, I mean, we’re gonna do stuff. Hey, my everyday carries a drone. Follow me around. That’d be 20 years. It’d be for real. But now, I mean, I have a hard enough time getting up in the morning and just kind of deciding, well, first off, I try not to.
If I’m gonna go train, I don’t even try to muddle the two. So to be the first thing I tell people is don’t have your real stuff with your training stuff. I would separate everything. Yeah. For. Just for safety. And that’s the first place I start in everyday carries.
Make sure that my training is completely separated from my real ear. For safety, safety, safety. Because that’s my biggest fear. Right. Is I make a mistake and I cut somebody. Yeah. That. It’s got to be. That’s why we do weapon pack downs. Check, get that visual. Nobody came in off the street.
Yeah. Like, made a mistake. It’s very, like, okay, I’m, um, set to train. Yeah. Like, my, you know, I tell people, like, get a, get a secondary sheath that you’re not even trading back and forth with one sheath. Uh, you know, the cost of a sheath for the clear sky defender, it’s not that much.
I mean, we have, like, the wholesale price on there. Yeah. For a secondary sheath. You want to get another one. It’s an incredible, it’s the wholesale, it’s our price, and you’re getting it right through dagger, not like it’s right through the manufacturer here in Colorado. That’s a great knife.
So we haven’t found yours today. You know, I see different knives moving some of the different ones. I saw some knives falling off of people today. Yeah. Um, which I was shocked. You know, there’s, there’s several people that don’t, you know, use the clear sky defender, and it’s very secure.
It’s not moving around as are several now. It’s not where you trained it to be. It shifted. And that’s part of your everyday, like, how how is what you’re doing? How is it, uh, you’re able to retain it? Yeah, you know, I mean, big from the ids. Todd Fosse, concealment, retention of the bottom of that pyramid.
So your everyday carry. I’ve got to be able to retain it. You know, if we’re talking about personal protection weapons, it’d be one thing if my flashlight falls out. Yes, I can use that for self defense and self protection. Um, but if that falls out, it’s not the biggest of deals.
Yeah. Uh, if a knife falls out. Yeah, yeah. If your knife or your gun falls out, that’s a big no. Now we’re talking. Especially when you’re talking about, we’re in a scuffle. I like that word. You’re in a scuffle. Scuffle. And this is just boys fighting. You’re not, you know, you lose that weapon, you’re not justified to use that weapon.
Never. You lose it, there’s a good chance that they decide to use it, because they are like, whoa, they just dropped the knife.
Right?
That, you know, that you. Your retention is huge. You know, if it just falls out, if it moves, all of that stuff we know, just in a t shirt, wrestling around, you’re. You can lose your concealment very easily.
Yeah.
And that’s why we’re. That’s the. The self defense that we’re doing, you know, if you’re interested, that’s. That’s how you gotta go interview the self defense place you’re going to, or whatever it is. Like, what’s your. What is your context? Like, I had a guy that, um, moved not too long ago from Texas, and his wife did Krav Maga for a short time, and he’s calling around different places to get him and his son and his wife in.
Like, look, this is what we’re about. Rocky Mountain. Self defense and fitness. We’re all about self defense. You know, I think his son had done some muay thai, and he’s, like. He’s leaning toward more, like, gravitating towards, like, self defense. Like, that’s all we do. Yeah, we integrate with whatever works and test it.
Like, uh. Is it gonna be something that we’re going to plug into our system? Because crab MacGy is meant to be adaptable.
Yeah.
Like, what works out in the street, what’s practical from any martial art.
Yeah.
That’s where people forget. And, you know, I mean, I beat that drum all the time because there’s so many people beating the drum of. You need to do learn BJJ. Yes. You need ground skills. But if that’s all you’re doing, and if your context is always tournament based, yes.
Can you use taekwondo in self defense? Yeah. Can you use BJJ in self defense? Yes. But your context for whatever percent, even if you go 50%. Yeah, 50% of the time you’re doing sport to self defense, is it 80%? Cause you’re gonna train that way. You’re gonna default to how you train.
And if it’s an afterthought, which it is with a lot of people, it’s like the gun community freaking hand to hand stuff is an afterthought. Cause they have a gun, it’s. You’re not gonna lean back on it. That’s what we’re about, is self protection and integrating those skills. So if you’re looking for a gym, like, that’s an interview question.
What, you know, what’s your right? What’s the main context of your class to. Can I do this move to somebody?
Yeah.
In a weight class, yada, yada.
To continue on your context there, we’re just as much as a classroom and a laboratory, too, because we’re always working what’s best for self defense. So we teach, we learn, and we experiment, which is really nice as a gym, because seeing you be able to develop things that work, you’re constantly on the cutting edge of finding what’s working for self defense.
While in a lot of sports, you just kind of stick to the sport.
Right. There’s always, well, there’s still experiment, like what’s going to work. Uh, they’re still doing those same things, but their context is different.
Right there. That’s the same thing. Like, you can’t say that, like, Mma is a lab you’re getting. It’s the same thing.
Sure.
They’re doing the same exact thing. Okay, so we’re not different that way.
Okay.
We’re different in our context. Is, um, this going to be applicable on the street? Hey, how is that position gonna be if I’m carrying an appendix? Where’s my gun and this position? Uh, that’s what our context is. There’s no consideration for. Oh, my God, my knife. When you’re talking about you’re doing a tournament, uh-huh uh.
Type of thing. So their context is different. So you don’t have to worry about somebody pulling a knife at a tournament.
Thank goodness. I mean, that would be horrible.
But it’s true.
I mean, that’s.
That’s the reality. But you can wear. You just joke to Eric. You know, our buddy Eric, that, uh, we work BJJ with on Thursdays, you know, it’s going to a tournament in Vegas next week. He’s like, I’m gonna miss next week. I’m gonna be in Vegas. And you’re like, bring the cert pistol.
You can win. He’s a shoot anybody, like, right. Nobody is pulling a knife in that tournament. Yeah, they’re gonna be arrested. They’re a crazy person. Right? Crazy dude showed up at a, uh, BJJ tournament with a knife and started hacking people. They’re gonna be arrested.
Yeah.
That’s not their context. But in the street in Vegas, somebody might pull a knife on you.
Oh, my gosh. And that’s what’s.
So, that’s where people get very confused on a lot of things. And for their everyday carry. It’s the. The one I did to Justin this morning that I gave him a hard scenario, that here’s a guy in your face kind of chest bumping you. Like, what’s your problem, man?
You bumped into me. Look out. And I go to bear hug him and just grab. Like, I’m just gonna grab this guy where maybe he’s gonna try to tackle you to the ground. And I feel the gun and call it off. Yeah, I went, whoa, whoa, whoa. And retreated away, moved away with my hands up in a non threatening, like, whoa, man, you got a gun.
I’m out. Whoa. I don’t want to mess with you. Maybe draw, maybe. But he’s like, you went for my gun? I’m like, I didn’t. I discovered your gun. Yeah, I discovered your gun and didn’t continue. It’d be one thing if I discovered it. And then when I’m taking it totally, uh, different context, I’m like, were you justified to shoot me there?
I was showing a willingness to retreat and stop that fight with my hands up. I called it off, essentially going, whoa, whoa. You got a gun? Ho, ho. Whoa.
Yeah.
Everybody that’s gonna see that video is gonna be like, that dude was an ass. For whatever reason, they might not even see in the video that he noticed he had a gun. Yeah, it might take somebody a second, right? I mean, the average person I know, he has a gun on him, so, like, it’s tough.
You know, he’s all hyped up because it’s class time, and if somebody touches your gun, you’re justified. But I’m like, I gave you a hard one. That was a hard one. I was showing a willingness to retreat. Yeah, I wasn’t yanking your gun out of the holster.
You become. You go from good guy to quote bad guy in an instant. I mean, there’s just so much.
So, you know, you’re the context. Like, you’re out there carrying a gun, and this is, you know, I’m glad I just, you know, brought up that story, because one of the things I was thinking about for this podcast, um, was the whole, you know, I lost my train of thought.
Um, your context with that is just crazy. Like, you think because you do krav maga, you, uh, think because you do BJj or I’m a wrestler, and I’m out there with that gun that you’re good. Like, I felt very confident with my self protection skills and having a gun on me.
It’s like, you know, it’s a distance weapon, and when am I going to use that? But adding the citizen defender and training with Todd Fosse, I’m like, wow, I was not prepared. I mean, I just go back to, like, 25 years ago of going, oh, my gosh, this taekwondo stuff I was doing could have gotten me killed.
Yeah.
Like, it was horrible. When I, like crab. My God. Is so much better and more innovative, and it’s self defense. It’s not tournament based. It’s not an art form. Um, it’s how to go home safe. Yeah, if you want to call that an art. Great. But it’s also, we’re gonna change things.
Yeah.
Because things need to be changed. Or, um, hey, here’s something else. And, you know, that’s where some Krav maga and, you know, like, this guy didn’t know that. I was just referring to earlier about his son, that Krav Maga lost his trademark. There’s all sorts of Krav maga out there.
You don’t know how good it is, you know? Or is that they’re just side gig that we’re gonna say, we have a Krav Maga class a couple times, a money job. It’s just another. It’s another program. Like, hey, we have our fitness program. Great. We have our citizen defender program.
They’re all different revenue streams. Did they just tag on to, yeah, we’ve got a krav maga.
Uh-huh.
I mean, I’ve gone. I’ve had students go, I went into this place. They said they did Krav maga, and it was maybe a little bit of krav maga.
Uh-huh.
But it was mainly whatever martial art they were they were doing in there, you know, adapting it for their martial art. Right. And calling it krav maga.
Uh, that’s interesting.
So there’s people out there changing it for the sake of changing it, like, just to make their krav maga a little bit different than Krav Maga worldwide or Krav Maga alliance. Um, and that’s where I go, why change something that works now? We’ll change something that beginners pick up quicker and gets the job done, and it fits the context and everything else.
And you go, you know, that’s a easier way to explain.
A headlock.
Beginners are, you know, we did, you know, I just. A scarf holder, you know, choke from the side on the ground. We changed that with citizen Defender for our Krav Maga program because when we’re workshopping it, students can pick it up faster than the one we were teaching before.
Like, it’s caught, it’s doing the same mission, and it’s easier to learn. We’re not changing it for the sake of changing it.
Yeah.
You know, some people change it to make it their own.
Right. They want to put their own. Their own.
Their own ninja style. Yeah.
Or something on it.
Right.
They want to try to own it, which is very interesting because, you know, if the car is working, why change it? Yeah. You can change the paint if you need to, right? Get it new tires. Right? You can get it new hoses, new fluids. You know, for the most part, if the car is working, keep driving.
Yeah. And that was, like, your limited exposure in, uh, ids level 2.5. And I said to you, look at all these guys that are doing Krav Maga in this training. They’re not doing this other technique. They’re doing their one. They’ve trained for years. They’re not changing it for the sake of training it.
And these guys are levels or, you know, what are they, three, four years at least ahead of us in ids training? And I’m like, look, Josh, they’re not changing what they’ve already done now for you. And you’re, you know, oh, hey, you got a year and a half of Krav Maga.
Uh, well, maybe, maybe, but you’re in a Krav Maga gym and everybody else is doing other stuff, so why? Why are you going to change it? It’s just going to add confusion to the school. Like, well, why is Josh doing that? Like, well, because he’s got a crazy haircut and he’s trying to be different.
I don’t know.
I don’t.
You hear that a lot. It’s showing up a lot.
Oh, gosh. You know, there’s no point in changing it or even for the gym. I’m like, don’t even worry. Like, Josh, we have a technique for that. You just haven’t learned it yet. We’re not going to change it. You were, like, excited to see something like the typical martial arts student.
Like, oh, I’m excited to learn something new and it’s cool. And I’m like, we’re not going to do that because it’s not. Why am I going to change something, uh, that already works. And not only myself, but a ton of other people have spent years training in the gym.
Why?
Yeah, why?
They’ve already put in the training time. Now they’re gonna put a new training time. Nothing gonna break the habit. Oh, my God.
It’s gonna take as long as learning the original one.
You know, it’s worse.
Yeah.
Now you got two choices. You got two things in your head. I had a guy that I did, um. God, I did the fight. The first two levels with him. Like, level, you know, chrome agal worldwide was level. You know, you did actually, you know, it’s phase a, b, and c.
And then you went to expert one, and blah, blah, blah. Um, he had said he had continued to teach his kenpo in there, and I could see, um, it was stick defense.
Yeah.
That he had two choices. So when you did a stress drill and he’s running Ooda loop, what technique is he gonna do? And there was another. There’s now another split second of hesitation and bang, you got hit with a stick.
Yeah.
Right. Because you had two choices.
Yeah.
And even said, he’s like, oh, God, I’m struggling with the move. And I’m like, hey, there. That’s why, like, I stopped. Doing my taekwondo. Uh, like, when we met, I went back, like, dawn. Like, we had some fun things for kids. Yeah. Like, that’s where I was done with my traditional stuff.
He m. You know, and again, probably, you know, financial. I can’t blame you. But he was teaching two classes and two different techniques. And now here’s a guy. I mean, he was like, whatever. Ah, we’ll just say even if you were, like, ten. But I think he was younger than that when he started martial arts.
Huh? Here’s a guy, extremely skilled, right, that you would go, oh, man, you’re gonna be able to defend yourself. But no, he practiced two techniques, and that’s gonna slow him down in a real friggin fight, because he’s got two choices. Pick one. Let’s just get one that works. Yeah.
One, I can default. You know, people like martial artists. Like, well, I’ve got on this technique, and I can go to this technique. What did Eric just tell you? Uh, he says, oh, I go, I default to the most basic. Yeah, that part of it. Right. The freaking easiest thing.
And that’s where some people, you know, will get bored, I think, with my training, because I’m like, do it again. You still suck at it. I suck at it. You think you’re freaking awesome. Like, whatever, dude. Um, you need to do it again and again if you want to be safe.
This is about being safe, not about entertaining your ass all the time. Yeah, like, you know, some of it is freaking. Just the discipline of doing it over and over again. Yeah. When I started saying maybe I did, I don’t know where I put it, I was told the cow is, like, on the cabin, like, super hard on the kids this week.
Um, going, I, uh, don’t care that you’re tired. I don’t care that you’re back to school and you’re tired. And your parents. Oh, like, we have people like, oh, I don’t know. They’re back to school. They’re tired, and maybe we’ll start training with you, uh, when they get their schedule figured out.
Oh, you’re tired. And over the. You know, sometimes I’m like, are you guys are back to school? We’re just having a fun class. I was trying to do it. Like, it wasn’t even this week. It was last week. I was like, dude, nose over toes. Take them down. Usually, kidde, like, you guys are terrible at this.
What’s going on? And I don’t care if you’re tired. Uh, some of you are upper belts. This should be, like, no brainer for you. Ah. That I don’t care how exhausted or tired you are from being in school that you can’t do nose over toes. Like, what’s going on?
I’m like, get some sleep. Drink some water. Eat a healthy meal. It doesn’t look bad. Go to sleep early. When you graduate high school, it gets worse. I’m like, dude. I’m like, you know how hard. I’m like, I am so sick of, like, oh, it’s. You’re tired. I’m like, no, bullies don’t care.
Bullies aren’t taking the. I’m like, I think it’s bully season now, and you gotta take some time off for your kid. Cause they’re tired and their schedule. I’m like, they’re kids. They’re freaking fine. Yeah, that would be cool. And. Yeah, and you’re gonna be busy. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. It’s like what I told my daughter.
Yeah. Oh, you got a lot going on. Yeah. Get the stuff done you need for the gym. Get it done. Oh, going to college. Uh, yeah. And it’s not gonna get any easier. Get your crap done, get your training in. It’s the discipline or disappointment.
Mm hmm.
I saw that meme or whatever. Like, I love it. You know, pick to pick one. Discipline or disappointment. That’s a good one.
That’s a great one. Like, gotta throw that on something now.
All right, let me, uh, ask you this one in everyday.
Well, how many people are gonna buy it if you visit our store? Shop dot r m s d f comm? And we also have our clear sky division, which is just our online portal for our videos, guys. And that is shop clearsky training. So buy a t shirt. I can write it down for you, Josh.
Uh, I can put a t shirt.
All right, well, I was.
Cause I’m disappointed in you.
What would be a good shirt? Disappointed, disappointment? Discipline. Pick one. Is that a good shirt?
I wouldn’t mind that. That would be actually be pretty good because that sends a message. You got to decide every day, am I gonna disappoint myself or am I gonna be disciplined?
Yeah. If you guys are out there, uh, you’re our students. You can message me on band and you know how to get a hold of me. But you can also, if you’re out there listening, hit our maintain inbox, which is info at Roger Marysam David Frank. That’s rocky Mountain self defense and fitness.
So, uh, Roger Mary Sam David frank.com dot. And you can send that in there, and hopefully we get some, because, you know, Josh is on the wire.
I am.
Yeah. We got to make some freaking money here. We’re going to sell some t shirts. We got to do some stuff.
Otherwise, you’re just talking.
Otherwise, I’m paying you to talk.
Well, I think. Wait, I really worked this out here, didn’t I? Stay interesting.
You’ve got a mentor. I feel like I should be getting paid. Let’s just do it for 50 50. I for the classes. This is mentoring. It’s only five.
And I appreciate it. This is a private lesson to give you.
I don’t have any money, man.
I was gonna move on to everyday carry stuff. Now I’m just, uh.
Um.
I’m on the wire to call Tara later. Like, I don’t know what he’s doing anymore.
Yeah, I’m gonna talk to Tara. I’m like, I’m gonna get therapist. I think she needs to, uh.
She needs a therapist if you’re married to me.
Yeah, she needs.
You need a therapist.
She needs a day off.
You’re telling me.
Yeah. So let’s wrap up this. What were you thinking about? Edc? Oh, well, blow your brain. And you?
Well, there’s some people that carry at 03:00 and they’re generally really highly intelligent individuals who have really charismatic and good looking. Then you have these nuggle dracking, uh, neanderthals who carry in the appendix.
And I was just curious, rugged looking guys.
Well, I was just curious your, uh, opinion on that because I’m not a knuckle dragging neanderthal who carries in my appendix who might blow my whatever off.
That’s what women like. They like. That rug.
Is that what it is?
They like.
I thought it was 03:00.
They like the, uh, guy. They think they can. What is the name of that guy?
Beethoven.
They like the bad boy.
Do they, though?
Do they?
Do they know? That’s why all those aholes.
Hey, we could do a man, actually.
That would be kind of funny. Which one’s more rugged? You know, hold up. Like a rugged picture.
And, hey, we could go up to. We could go up to, uh, visit Lucy at school, take it for lunch, and we could do man in the street.
We’ll do a clear sky thing to.
Up there and we can ask some college girls. Yeah, this is. You’re gonna have, you’re gonna.
I got. I got. One of the volunteers at, uh, uh, check in was like, I like your shirt. And it was the, uh. You’ve got it at the bottom there.
Which one?
It’s covered up by your gut. I’m just being honest with you.
I know he’s been a lot honest with you.
I mean, right? Suck less, defined. Do hard things. That’s right. Embrace failure and don’t be a wuss.
That’s right.
I didn’t have it at my gut. I had the regular shirt on. There you go. There you go. Um, hey, I was there at Lucy school and I was like, all right, yeah, I got my suck less t shirts. And that’s where I’m like, I think. I think we can push this brand.
But like everything else, man, starting a small business is not freaking easy. It’s hard. But that’s what encourages me for that brand, for the brand. Um, but we could do a man on the street and, hey, who’s better looking? I mean, good. I got, like, ten years on YouTube.
This is gonna be very fetus.
Is it now? I mean, there’s a lot of assumptions here. What about those girls that are like, I like the.
I don’t know if you can hold it. I don’t know if you can hold it in your gut for that long.
You know, I just let it out. I’ll just be like, you know what? You don’t get a body like this by dieting and exercise.
You don’t get it by diet and exercise a little.
That’s right. Okay. I mean, if you want to do that.
When he makes the knuckle dragger joke about guys carrying appendix, and I go, I cannot conceal it, summertime. It’s true that I’m not conceal. And it’s hard to conceal a subgroup like I cannot conceive. I would prefer to carry a Glock 19. Yeah, that’s what I’m carrying. Probably seven months out of the year, depending on the weather.
Um, but summertime carry. I’m carrying a subcompact.
Yeah.
Yeah. So it is really tough to conceal it. You’ve got to be able to conceal your weapon. That’s number one retention.
Yeah.
Is number two.
Yeah.
So, I mean, I know it’s a.
Joke, but there’s times, like, some people just don’t have the build where they can put something on their hip. It sticks out like a sore thumb, no matter how small it is, and.
It’S just so important. Yeah, it’s so important. And it shifts around.
Yeah.
I feel I can conceal it. Is there. There’s pros and cons to everything, but I just go number one, you know, like I want. That’s where I sometimes think, like, the you instructors, like, you got to be careful of your own personal bias to students of going, well, I can get on my side on the ground, and I can protect it.
Well, if you’re not concealing it in the first place,
you’re doing your students disservice. Sure. That you’re saying, hey, at my frame, you’re like, uh, and here’s a pro. And that can really sway people.
Sure.
Like, you know, you can get people to do some ridiculous things.
As the instructor, I’ve gotten that question from students. I always say, you know, do what you find to be comfortable. That actually conceals it.
Do what? Conceals it. Uh, yeah. There’s pros and cons to both because there’s times that you can’t go to that hip.
Yeah. Oh, yeah. Like, the thing is, if they don’t know you have it.
Yeah.
That’s.
There’s pros and cons to, uh, to everything.
Yeah. And Bill said something this morning during training goes, remember, every fight that you’re getting into and you’re the one carrying the gun. You just brought a gun to the fight.
Yeah.
And if you don’t know how to use it or conceal it or hold it, retain it and train with John to get those skills, then it’s true.
Yeah, it’s true. Yeah. And that’s. I mean, that’s a total gun industry. I mean, I got. Nick, um, was the, you know, talked about that, like that, his law enforcement training way back when, you know, one of his defensive tactics instructors telling him that, wow.
Yeah.
You know, that, hey, you’re going in every fight you’re in a. There’s a gun because you’re a cop.
Yeah. Wow.
So there’s a gun in that fight. And, you know, it’s.
That’s. Yeah, that’s scary.
I don’t want to take it away. But again, like, you know, people out there listening to. Listening to it, like, it’s super popular with law enforcement now, but unless you’re grappling with that gun, that BJJ class is worth a lot. Guys. It is like, don’t get all fucking crybaby snowflake over your martial art.
Like, criticize. Like, I want to know the weaknesses of my martial art.
Yeah.
And there’s different things in our context. But if you’re out there on duty with a gun, that changes your fight. It changes it. And now you’re doing stuff in a grappling class that may put your gun at a real pads. It’s just you have to be considering these things.
So that’s, you know, that’s what we say, you know, uh, it’s. It blows me away because again, it’s just what I said, marshall. People can get people to do crazy things if they say it enough. Yeah, say it enough. Every fight goes to the ground. Every fight goes to the ground.
Say it enough, people believe you. Uh, is that what the data shows in civilian.
Yeah. Yeah. When you take away gang violence and police, right. It’s all. It’s almost standing.
It can still go to the ground.
Sure.
I mean, we have. We talked about it. Like, watch last week’s podcast when we talk about Todd’s graph. And, uh, you know, we brought it up and talked about it and talked about the percentages, you know, watch last week, that was, you know, a big chunk of that besides us, you know, me making fun of you or whatever.
Else I think you’ve ever done that.
Make fun of you never happens.
But they do need.
I mean, I got to make fun of you somehow. I mean, I’m paying you.
So when you make fun of me on. The floor, in front of my wife, in front of the other coaches on the show, and in front of people we haven’t met before. That’s not enough?
No.
Okay, cool. I’m on board.
Chief, would you. When you put your. When you put your foot in your mouth, I’m gonna let you know
I’m just your buddy. Like, you’re gonna put your foot in your mouth, I’m gonna make a sparkle sash. I did not interrupt Eric today when he was talking about
slippery clothes. And, hey, when we’re on the smooth mat, you know, if your clothes are a little bit rougher, I was like, oh, man, this is just an opportunity to be like, see, Josh, this is. This is why your spandex stuff that you wear outside of the gym is really good for you.
He’s like, see, you’re slippery. All that tight spandex that you’re wearing.
It’S Lululemon, and don’t you forget it.
It’s Lulu. I’m plugged. No lemon on this show.
I’m just saying, I’m gonna get you something from there.
I’m gonna get you a gift card. I’ll, uh, burn it.
No, no.
I’m forced you to wear it.
That’ll be the one fight we get into where I’m forcing you to wear it.
People will pay for that.
They would actually, like, I got a.
Feeling I can have to be on all office, because if you’re trying to, like, this is. I’m uncomfortable. Like, you’re gonna be, like, pulling some lululemon pants on me.
I’m, uh, just seeing, like, these. These blows coming in as you’re ready.
To, like, imagine, like, this dream you’re having that you’re pounding me. You’re like, Ralphie. That’s what I picture. You’re like, Ralphie. I’m, um, sick of you giving me shit.
Stop eating me.
But then you got to take off my snow suit. Yeah, I can see it where I’m uncomfortable now. I’m like, but that would be something dead looking over you. And now you’re gonna put on some Lululemon shorts later.
I’m gonna get attacks.
Like, I really hope they’re not yoga.
Don’t do that to. Johnny will kill you.
He will kill you. That would be an onlyfans, and we would probably.
That’s called a fetish.
I’m gonna force you to wear this.
I thought this was about everyday Carrie, and it’s turned into something.
It’s everyday lululemon, I guess. And, uh, don’t plug them on this show. I wear 511s. Or cool. Or, you know. Yeah, some random jeans.
Uh, wrangler. They were cheaper.
They’ve actually held up. I have Billy, the kids. Oh, do you?
The jeans?
Yeah, from the seventies, early eighties. I bet.
You should wear those. Take a picture.
They’re not gonna fit anymore. Can you get some? Let’s look online. Oh, dude, you can buy. All right, guys, support the podcast. Hopefully you know how. And if you’re on YouTube, hit that subscribe button. Share this with a friend that, uh, maybe is doing something that they should consider changing in their EDC for a martial artist, being in a hand to hand confrontation and all that jazz.
Alright, guys, thanks for joining me. We’re out of here.
