XEGIS Gun Safe Review – Palm Vein Recognition Technology
When it comes to firearm ownership, safe storage and quick access are both critical. Recently I had the opportunity to test the XEGIS gun safe featuring palm vein recognition, and my first impression was simple:
It’s the fastest gun safe I’ve ever opened.
I’ve been around firearms my entire life and I teach real-world self-defense at Rocky Mountain Self Defense & Fitness and ClearSky Training. Because of that, I’ve tested quite a few safes over the years.
Most quick-access safes rely on one of two systems:
• Keypad combinations
• Fingerprint scanners
Both work, but both also take time.
With a keypad safe, you have to enter the code and wait for the internal mechanism to cycle. Even good safes take a couple seconds to open.
The XEGIS safe uses palm vein recognition, which reads the unique vein pattern inside your hand. Instead of typing a code or scanning a fingerprint, you simply place your palm over the sensor.
The result is extremely fast access.
Testing the Safe
During our testing, the safe opened consistently every time.
Even with slightly sweaty hands from movement and adrenaline, the reader recognized my palm and unlocked the safe immediately.
We didn’t push it to the extreme of a fully soaked “wet hand” test, but under normal training conditions it performed flawlessly.
Faster Than My Current Safe
I currently own another safe at home that requires a keypad entry. It works well, but compared to the XEGIS safe it’s noticeably slower.
After testing the XEGIS, I’ve actually decided to replace the safe I currently use at home because the access speed and reliability impressed me that much.

First Impressions
This isn’t a final long-term review yet—I’ll continue testing the safe over time—but my early experience has been very positive.
For anyone looking for a fast-access defensive firearm safe, especially for home defense situations, the XEGIS safe is definitely worth looking into.
